Can a light festival be sustainable?
While an increasing number of large-scale cultural and sporting events are making sustainable development and environmental responsibility a priority, light festivals seem to have remained on the side-lines of this development. Despite the considerable success of these events and the questions on energy inevitably raised by the use of light, environmental issues are only rarely emphasized.  Through accounts of festivals that are pioneering and exemplary in this area, we shall see what social and environmental tools can be developed to reduce the ecological footprint of these events.

12:30 – 14:00 Lunch
“Village Lumière” – Palais de la Bourse

14:00 – 16:00 The role of sound in light festivals
Light festivals are increasing in number throughout the world; their format and nature are evolving and becoming more diverse. In particular, at most light festivals nowadays, sound and music is a prominent feature of the installations offered. This conference will address all of the aspects related to this development – from artistic motivations, to the necessity to responding to public demand – in order to determine the place of sound in today’s light festivals.
