WEBINAR – Placemaking After Dark:

Rethinking public space lighting for safer, greener cities

With cities worldwide striving to create more inclusive and sustainable urban spaces, the conversation around how and where we light our parks and streets has never been more timely — or complex.

Co-hosted by LUCI and the City of Glasgow, this webinar explores placemaking as a collaborative process, focusing on how co-design and public engagement shape nighttime lighting strategies that promote public safety and environmental responsibility.

As lead of the LUCI Placemaking Working Group, Glasgow will share in-depth learnings from its ongoing initiatives in parks and green spaces — highlighting how a citywide, community-led approach to lighting design can address complex challenges at the intersection of safety, gender equity, and environmental protection. Glasgow’s approach highlights the power of engaging residents directly in reimagining their shared spaces.

The session will also feature international insights from the cities of Eindhoven, The Netherlands, and Providence, USA, as well as a presentation by LUCI US Ambassador Leni Schwendinger, and a short introduction to LUCI newest partner, the Women in Lighting platform.
