Tartu in Light – TAVA2018 announces 3 open calls

The second edition of TAVA, or Tartu in Light, will take place in Tartu (Estonia) from 25 to 28 October 2018. Launched in 2016, Tartu Valgus, or TAVA, is a cross-disciplinary festival of architectural lighting and light art. It is organised by Valgusklubi (The Light Club), an organization acting on behalf of public interest, in collaboration with the City of Tartu.
The main programme of the festival consists of international workshops, outdoor installations, a conference, a light fair and indoor exhibitions. A side programme runs from 20 October to 20 November.

TAVA has launched three distinct open calls for its next edition:

  • First of all, for their lighting design conference, TAVA is seeking five experienced and professional speakers who are studying or/and working with light, perception and public space. This year’s theme is Resilient Design in a Changing World.
  • In addition, the outdoor installation programme of the festival, Lightpath, will be comprised of five outdoor installations and one indoor installation. TAVA2018 is looking for new and site-specific installations. This year’s concept is Radical Light.
  • Finally, three architectural lighting workshops will experiment with lighting in the public realm. Workshops will be set around landmarks such as St John’s Church or the Estonian Ministry for Education and Research. To head these workshops, TAVA is looking for professional designers who are members of the IALD (International Association of Lighting Designers).
