During the Africa Urban Lighting Workshop taking place in Rabat last autumn, we had the chance to sit down with Fatiha El Moudni, Mayor of Rabat and President of LUCI. She shares her vision of LUCI as a unique opportunity for cities to exchange and learn from one another, and collectively shape more sustainable urban futures with lighting.

Rabat took centre stage at the end of September 2025, hosting the first-ever Africa Urban Lighting Workshop, an event that gathered African cities, experts, and policymakers to discuss ideas on the future of sustainable lighting across the continent.

The latest stage of the AVMEP project in Fez has proven to be a significant milestone, showcasing remarkable progress in capacity building for public lighting in Moroccan cities. For the first time, a combined “training + workshop” format was introduced, yielding highly positive results.

LUCI is issuing two calls for tenders: to build and implement a training programme and workshops for the AVMEP project in 2025; for the pedagogical coordination of the project activities in 2025.
