Mapsion is an event founded in 2022 and Finland’s first and only international video mapping competition. Originally organised at the Vuojoki Manor in Eurajoki, the competition has had participants from nearly 30 different countries in previous years. The name of the event, Mapsion, is a combination of the words “mapping” and “mansion”.
The competition will be implemented by projecting the 12 pre-selected finalist works onto the wall of Jyväskylä City Hall. Designed by Karl Viktor Reinius in 1898, Jyväskylä City Hall is one of the few buildings in the city centre that has survived from the 19th century. The history of the building will hopefully inspire the competition participants in their projections. The neo-Renaissance style building was once the city’s largest construction project. The building housed the local magistrate’s office, the court of appeals, the chamber of financial transactions, the library and reading room, the Bank of Finland and the auction chamber.
The opening event of the competition will be held on October 25th, 2025, where the jury will select and award the three best finalists. All finalist artworks will be on display to the public daily for the next three weeks.
