New LUCI member – Jinju (S. Korea)

LUCI is pleased to welcome its latest member: the City of Jinju.

With a population of 351,000 inhabitants, Jinju is a central hub of the South Region of Korea. Four Korean cities are now members of the network.

Every October, Jinju organises the Namgang Yudeung Festival. This centuries-old lantern festival is one of the most renowned light festivals in Asia.

According to Visit Korea, the official tourism organisation of the country, « the highlights of the festival are the floating of lanterns carrying personal wishes of the citizens along the Namgang River, and the parade of lanterns created by the students themselves. »
