New LUCI member – Jinju (S. Korea)

LUCI is pleased to welcome its latest member: the City of Jinju.

With a population of 351,000 inhabitants, Jinju is a central hub of the South Region of Korea. Four Korean cities are now members of the network.

Every October, Jinju organises the Namgang Yudeung Festival. This centuries-old lantern festival is one of the most renowned light festivals in Asia.

According to Visit Korea, the official tourism organisation of the country, “the highlights of the festival are the floating of lanterns carrying personal wishes of the citizens along the Namgang River, and the parade of lanterns created by the students themselves.”
