Moroccan Lighting Days for Africa 2025
a platform for innovation, sustainability, and dialogue
The second edition of the Moroccan Lighting Days for Africa (MLDFA) took place on 18–19 June 2025 in Marrakesh, bringing together lighting experts, city leaders, market parties, innovators, and investors from across Africa and beyond to explore the future of lighting on the continent.
Over the course of two days, the event offered a rich program of thematic round tables, networking opportunities, and exhibitions, all focused on the intersection of lighting, technology, sustainability, and urban development.
This year’s edition marked a step forward in establishing MLDFA as a recurring platform for reflection and exchange on lighting practices adapted to the realities and ambitions of African cities.

LUCI’s contribution: sharing expertise and encouraging dialogue
LUCI played a meaningful role among the many organisations represented at MLDFA. LUCI’s General Director, Mark Burton-Page, opened the event with a keynote address that underscored lighting as a common good — one that plays a central role in economic, social, cultural, and environmental life in cities, a public resource that must be equitably distributed and responsibly managed.
He also co-moderated the “City Glow vision” round table, helping guide a discussion on trends in public lighting with attention to safety, urban aesthetics, and technological integration. High level speakers, including Mr Oumar Ba, Mayor of Ndip (Senegal) and President of the Senegalese association of Mayors, discussed smart lighting networks and their role in the development of more eco-friendly and inclusive urban environments.
LUCI’s participation in MLDFA 2025 reaffirms its belief in the power of collaborative networks and city-driven innovation. As LUCI’s General Director expressed, “There is an extraordinary opportunity in Morocco, and across the African continent, to reinvent the night — to set an example not only for Africa but for the entire world.”
Locally inspired, globally connected
The 2025 edition of MLFDA demonstrated not only the diversity of expertise in the field but also the importance of cross-sectoral partnerships in addressing the complex challenges of lighting the world of tomorrow. With its growing profile, MLDFA is emerging as a space where African and international actors can share experiences, challenge assumptions, and co-develop strategies for inclusive and forward-looking urban lighting.
