Winter Lights Festival takes place in all six municipalities of the capital area of Reykjavik. This festival of light and darkness includes Museum Night, Pool Night, and the Light Trail, along with over 150 events where numerous artists help create a unique atmosphere in the city.
All events are free of charge during the Winter Lights Festival.
On Museum Night, many museums across the capital area open their doors and offer an entertaining and diverse program from 6pm to 11pm.
On Pool Night, swimming is free from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. in multiple capital area swimming pools. Visitors can look forward to a magical evening set in captivating darkness. Light, darkness, and joy will fill the evening and guests are encouraged to relax and enjoy the moment.
The Light Trail of the Winter Festival plays a key role. The trail is a walking path from Hallgrímskirkja down Skólavörðustígur and all the way to Austurvöllur which is surrounded by light art installations. The Light Trail artworks are by both local and international artists.
