Artichoke’s trademark winter light festival Lumiere transforms busy urban areas by inviting artists to create works that illuminate the city’s public and semi-public spaces. Returning to Durham for the fourth time, local and international artists and community groups will breathe new light onto its historic buildings, streets and public spaces with a spectacular programme of light works. The UK’s light art biennial returns with a thought-provoking new programme of spectacular light artworks in November 2023. Artists from the UK and beyond will reimagine Durham’s buildings and public spaces, creating works that say something about our world. This upcoming edition aims to keep sustainability at the forefront as the organisers cooperate with industry experts, Durham County Council and the local community to take climate action towards net zero.
