LUCI participated in the 2024 Guangzhou International Lighting Exhibition (GILE) in China
From 9 to 10 June 2024, LUCI participated in the 2024 Guangzhou International Lighting Exhibition (GILE) in China, presenting a keynote entitled “LUCI Association and Meaningful Urban Lighting” and leading a focus group discussion with representatives of 15 Chinese cities.
2024 GILE showcased significant and remarkable lighting hardware and software development related to digital and intelligent urban lighting technology and application.
The main concept of “Light – The power of Infinity” as the thematic programme of the 2024 GILE covered several points providing a platform for wide and deep inspiration through quality of light and digitalization. Within the theme’s context, INFINITY stands for:
I: Intelligent solutions for new challenges,
N: Net-zero future,
F: Five senses,
I: Individualism and customization,
N: New business models,
I: Industry 4.0 leads the intelligent manufacturing future,
T: Technological innovation,
Y: Yielding infinite possibilities.
2024 GILE aimed to show how the lighting industry is a leader in adopting innovation and a major contributor to smart city and human centric lighting development.
Youngho Baik, Seoul City Urban Lighting Governance member and LUCI Ambassador shared how LUCI has played a significant role in international urban lighting over the past 20 years. Indeed, the network is pursuing meaningful urban lighting knowledge sharing amongst its worldwide members. Youngho Baik also participated in a focus group discussion with representatives of 15 Chinese cities on the topic of light festivals. The group exchanged around the following questions:
>> How can a light festival highlight the city’s unique architectural and historical landmarks?
>> What strategy can be used to secure long-term funding and support for a light festival’s sustainability initiatives?
>> How can lighting design support the city’s economic revitalization efforts?
>> How lighting festival can successfully promote the city’s identity?
The ensuing discussions were rich and diverse, responding to urban lighting challenges and sharing ideas and expertise based on each city’s experience.
