Lights of Kruunuvuorenranta

A new residential district Kruunuvuorenranta, opposite the downtown area of Helsinki on a former Laajasalo oil terminal, is under construction. This new area will be one of the most prominent marine fronts and will be visible from the city centre, the sea and the islands surrounding the Kruunuvuorenselkä bay area. The Kruunuvuorenranta western quarters and facades towards the city centre will be built into a work of light art that will be visible from a distance. At the same time, a lighting scheme is planned to create a comfortable neighborhood and support the aesthetics of the public spaces and the dwelling quarters. Both permanent and temporary lighting arrangements are planned, with new innovative, ecological, and lighting control methods favoured. The construction, which started in 2013, is estimated to be completed around 2020, and will welcome around 11 000 dwellers.
