Interactive Luminothérapie installations delight Montreal citizens

Luminothérapie, an annual initiative organised by the Partnership of the Quartier des Spectacles that enlivens Montreal winters with light, is enchanting locals in its sixth edition.

The main square of the district, the Place des Festivals, has been transformed into a huge interactive urban game through the installation of 30 luminous and musical seesaws that react to the  movements of people as they use them. The creation is the work of Toronto-based firm Lateral Office and Montreal-based CS Design, in collaboration with EGP Group of Montreal.

Luminothérapie also includes nine video projections on building façades in the district, which echo the seesaws on the Place des Festivals through the use of architectural lines and a hypnotic soundtrack.

“Every year, we are eager to give Montrealers a new creative winter experience in the heart of the Quartier des Spectacles. Luminothérapie’s public installations transform our relationship with the city, beautify it, and give it a wonderful friendly touch. Luminothérapie also keeps Montreal shining bright around the world as a hub of interactive art,” said Chantal Rossi, Ville de Montréal Associate Councillor Culture, Heritage and Design.

This edition of Luminothérapie runs from 10 December 2015 to 31 January 2016.
