Helsinki today, current projects in city planning

 

This presentation will give an overview of the present situation of urban planning in Helsinki and future visions for the city development. It will also introduce new projects. Helsinki is currently formulating a new master plan, “City plan”, for the year 2050. Because Helsinki is preparing for significant population growth, densifying the city structure and developing a railway network are the main principles of the new master plan. New housing areas are also being planned.

 

Mikko Aho, Director of City Planning, Architect, City of Helsinki

Mikko Aho is currently the Director of City Planning at the City of Helsinki. Previously he served both as Municipal Manager and Director of Development of the Municipality of Sipoo. He has also been the Technical Director of the City of Karkkila and City Planner at the Municipality of Mäntsälä. Aho began his career working as an architect and designer in several architectural offices. He also served as a jury member in architectural competitions and held various lectures on city planning.
