City of Light

The City of Light event provides both residents and visitors with a chance to learn about, experience and enjoy Jyväskylä’s lighting, including a number of special lighting installations. The event is also the occasion to unveil new permanent lighting installations every autumn.

An essential part of the autumn light event has been the City of Light seminar for lighting professionals, which brings together professionals in the field of urban lighting from all over Finland.

The City of Light also organises other light events for the dark period, such as the Christmas Light Land in the Kirkkopuisto park at the end of the year and the Valoiloa (‘joy of light’) exhibition in 2020. The year-round lighting strategy foresees extending the series of lighting events also to the early part of the year.
