Chartres en Lumières

The highlight of Chartres en lumière, the Fête de la lumière combines for one evening the magical atmosphere of illuminations, the discovery of new scenographies and the festive atmosphere of street performances, wanderings and entertainment.

Every two years, it is held on the third Saturday of September, on the occasion of European Heritage Days. Visitors can then discover a new program endlessly declining the theme of light during an exceptional festive evening. During an evening, at nightfall, the heart of the Chartres city gets carried away. Art and street shows, plastic installations, participative and interactive animations, musical wanderings, exhibitions… we would never have imagined more lights rich and fun! A great opportunity to live puzzling experiences Highly anticipated, this event attracts an ever-increasing public, bringing together Chartres, neighbors of the region… and tourists from all over the world.

With attendance of around 50,000 visitors, this is the biggest back-to-school event in the Centre-Val-de-Loire region.

In 19th edition that takes place from April 30 2022 to January 14 2023, Chartres en lumières returns with 21 illuminated sites.
