Aura Festival
AURA is about the Art of Light on Sintra village. Light as a matter, a medium and a metaphor are associated with the ancestral fascination that Sintra exercises over who chooses it by destiny or circumstance. Artistic events in symbolic places transfigure the night and the memories, creating a Path of Light in the Cultural Landscape of Sintra.
In the celebrations of the European Year of Cultural Heritage, Aura presents an international program that reflects the importance of Sintra heritage and its ancestral attractiveness, interactive video projection, real-time creation and on-site light sculptures.
The works presented, more than a dozen were created with local references such as photographic archives, stories of the residents’ stories or the peculiar production of Colares wine.
Between the sharing of international experiences, the realization of projects with Sintra community and intervention good practices in public space and cultural heritage, AURA creates a field of action, a language and a community of artists, thinkers and friends all over the world.
Aura is the perfect mixture of passion for searching, balance of resources, sustainability of landscape impact and inclusion of local cultural heritage (material and imaterial) in artistic creation and practice.
AURA was awarded the “remarkable festival” label 2017-2018 by the European association EFFE (Europe for Festivals, Festivals for Europe) because of its artistic commitment, innovative approach, community involvement, European and international commitment.
The festival’s 6th edition, planned in 2020, has been cancelled due to the pandemic; there has not been another date planned since.
