Montpellier

24-26 april 2024

LUCI Annual General Meeting Montpellier

The LUCI Annual General Meeting (AGM) brings together the members of LUCI for its General Assembly as well as conferences, working group meetings, open conference sessions and the discovery of the host city and its lighting projects and policies.

For the 2024 edition of the LUCI AGM in Montpellier, LUCI and the City of Montpellier plan to offer hands-on experiences with light, show the importance of community engagements in lighting projects and share knowledge on the effects of urban lighting for the environment as a whole.

Attendees are warmly invited to join us in-person for this special event that will also adopt the LUCI “Declaration for the Future of Urban Lighting” that complements the original LUCI Charter.

Welcome words from Montpellier

We are delighted to invite the LUCI network to Montpellier for its Annual General Meeting. The 7th largest city in France, Montpellier is a dynamic, innovative city where culture plays an important role. That’s why we have joined forces with 154 local authorities to apply to become the European Capital of Culture in 2028.

Montpellier is also known and recognised for its university teaching quality and world-class research ecosystem, which is linked to the major areas of economic development in our metropolis (ecology, health, etc.). Montpellier is a city steeped in history yet deeply committed to the future—a future it is building around the ecological transition of its territory. On December 21, 2023, at 7:00 p.m., Montpellier will become the largest European metropolis to provide a free public transport network for all its inhabitants.

In Montpellier, we are also working on lighting and darkness policies in a cross-cutting way to understand various issues better. We need to consider environmental issues such as reducing energy consumption and protecting biodiversity. As we develop dark infrastructures, we will reduce our carbon footprint and protect nature. Finally, the aesthetics of the city are of paramount importance when it comes to the lighting equipment in the public realm.

We are therefore delighted to invite you to LUCI’s annual meeting. This event will enable us to address the link between urban lighting and environmental issues through conferences, debates, and practical exercises.

We hope you enjoy your stay in Montpellier. See you on April 24, 25, and 26, 2024!

Montpellier is pleased to invite you to a sensory experience: tours, exhibitions, debates, board games, conferences, tastings… There will be something for everyone!

With its Lighting Plan, the Metropolis of Montpellier is committed to both sustainability and luminous aesthetics. That’s why we invite you to reflect on preserving the sky and the environment while enhancing our quality of life.

We will work, study, and plan concrete cases to stimulate your brainpower during these spring days. Exchanging experiences, ideas, and themes will enrich us with your skills and knowledge.

We need you and look forward to meeting and exchanging with you soon in Montpellier.
