Tampere has been working for a long time to improve urban lighting. Tampere joined LUCI to continue developing urban lighting and light festivals within an international network of lighting experts, to create international partnerships, and to enhance knowledge sharing.

The City of Tampere aims to achieve sustainable lighting development, energy efficiency, a safe urban environment and life cycle thinking as part of new investments. Maintenance of city lighting in Tampere is managed through framework agreement partners and lead by the city and the director of operations.
Lighting solutions in Tampere take into account biodiversity, safety, accessibility and smooth everyday life: developing solutions that take into account multiple needs. The lighting master plan is from 2013, but should be updated in the Spring of 2025.
