Marseille
France
General presentation
Marseille is the metropolis of the Mediterranean basin. The history of this atypical city was marked by the development of a shipping trade thriving during the second half of the 19th century.
The city has many assets: the sea, the sun, the exceptional natural light, nature and culture.
From the Old Port to the Calanques, Marseille is an accessible area with a varied landscape. With a rich cultural, architectural and historical heritage, today Marseille is very diverse and has a strong identity.
Named European Capital of Culture in 2013, and European City of the Year by the Academy of Urbanism in 2014, it is pursuing its strategy to make its urban area one of the largest metropolises in Europe in terms of economic influence. This strategy is consistent with economic development, urban renewal and social cohesion.
