Urban lighting in Jyväskylä
Jyväskylä has been actively developing it’s urban lighting and culture around light for over 25 years now. Coordinated by the City of Jyväskylä, the City of Light project is responsible for the city’s nightscape and constantly aims to use the latest lighting technology in the city’s infrastructure. Above all, the aim is to create a safe, comfortable and energy-saving environment for Jyväskylä’s residents, businesses and visitors.
Permanent illuminations are an important part of Jyväskylä’s cityscape. They support the architectural design and during the twilight hours, they serve to highlight interesting details of the area. There are already more than a hundred permanent lighting sites in Jyväskylä. Annual light festival is held at the end of September.
