Amsterdam Light Festival 2018-2019 – call for concepts

The Amsterdam Light Festival invites creators from around the world to submit their proposals for its 7th edition. It will be held from 29 November 2018 to 20 January 2019. The deadline for the submissions is 3 January 2018.

A new theme is chosen every year. For the next edition, the theme will be The Medium is the Message – from the phrase used by Marshall McLuhan to describe the powerful influence of media.

Two sets of installations will be displayed:

  • For the Water Exhibition, the Festival is looking for monumental installations which connect with the city, its inhabitants and the Festival’s visitors; they will be positioned in and around the canals;
  • For the Land Exhibition, the Festival is looking for immersive installations: “artworks that people can experience from up close, walk through, connect with and react to”.

The artworks submitted are selected by an international jury, along with the festival curatorial team. (see important dates below)
