How is the Seoul lighting policy put into action? The city has taken steps towards sustainable lighting, prevention of light nuisance and improvement of traffic safety. Measures have also been put in place to enhance the city’s cultural and historical identity through light. This session will present the projects and actions implemented as well as Seoul’s approach to the inclusion of citizens in this process .

As a natural bridge between man and his environment, light has an impact on both individual behaviors and social development of the city. Beyond functional usage, how do we use light to improve quality of life in all the diversity of urban spaces? To build public lighting policies of the future, how can we engage with citizens on lighting?
This panel discussion will feature four experts in urban lighting from around the world.

The cities of the LUCI network reaffirm the principles of sustainable urban lighting in line with the LUCI Charter and commit to take forward the first LUCI Strategic Plan [2017-2027] launched here at the AGM in Seoul. This marks a significant new step in the development of the LUCI network and includes the establishment of a LUCI Regional Office for Asia in Seoul.

The City of Seoul is currently preparing a new strategy in line with its ambitious vision for the future.  At the forefront of the use of new technologies and innovation in the field of lighting, Seoul will share its perspectives and goals towards a smart city where lighting is a major component of a green, safe and attractive capital city.

What are the needs of cities in terms of smart lighting technologies and what challenges are they facing today?
