LightLinks inauguration: new illumination for Hisham’s Palace in Jericho!

On the 12th of May 2011, the Cities of Lyon and Jericho along with Thorn and LUCI inaugurated the illumination of Hisham’s Palace in Jericho, a project implemented within the framework of the LightLinks project launched by LUCI and Thorn Lighting.

A conference on “Lighting: a tool for urban development” was also held to mark the occasion, demonstrating how light can contribute to urban development by enhancing heritage sites and stimulating economic activity and tourism. It was also the opportunity to discuss issues linked to energy efficiency and sustainable development in lighting.

Hisham’s Palace has been illuminated as part of the first LightLinks project which brought the cities of Lyon and Jericho together to develop a lighting scheme for the site. The LightLinks initiative, supported by Thorn, promotes economic and social development by encouraging cities from low and high income countries to create partnerships on sustainable urban lighting projects.
