Launch of the International Year of Light

The Opening Ceremony of the International Year of Light was held on the 19th and 20th of January 2015 at the UNESCO Headquarters in Paris (France).

Over a thousand participants converged in Paris for the two day event that introduced the key themes of the year, and aimed to serve as inspiration for events worldwide during 2015.

Speakers and attendees included international diplomats and decision-makers, Nobel laureates, CEOs, and science and industry leaders from across the globe.

To mark the occasion, the facades of the UNESCO Building in Paris featured a special lighting display entitled “Light is Here”. The installation, designed by Finnish light artist Kari Kola reflected the elements of the Northern lights.

LUCI, a silver associate of the International Year of Light, was present at the event.
