City.people.light award
The international city.people.light award is an annual competition which is run in conjunction with Philips. This award represents a significant step towards promoting the use of light as an essential component in urban development. It honours the towns or cities that best demonstrate the added value that lighting can bring to the urban environment. The finalists receive their prizes during LUCI Annual General Meetings.
Jyväskylä, Finland (1st prize)
Hangzhou, China & Lachen, Switzerland (joint 2nd prize)
This year’s finalists were invited to the 2009 Annual General Meeting in Gwangju (South Korea), where the winner, the City of Jyväskylä (Finland) was presented with the first prize city.people.light trophy together with a cheque for 10 000 euros. Hangzhou (China) and Lachen (Switzerland) were also presented with trophies for joint second prize. Special mentions went to the Cities of Copenhagen (Denmark) and Moers (Germany).
- In 2008, winners of the first, second and third prizes were respectively: Seoul (South Korea), Riga (Latvia) and St Gallen (Switzerland).
- In 2007, winners of the first, second and third prizes were respectively: Heinsberg (Germany), Geneva (Switzerland) and Sao Carlo (Brazil).
- In 2006, winners of the first, second and third prizes were respectively: Vienna (Austria), Leipzig (Germany) and San Luis Potosi (Mexico).
- In 2005, winners of the first, second and third prizes were respectively: Cologne (Germany), Tampere (Finland) and Cannes (France).
- In 2004, Gent (Belgium), Copenhagen (Denmark) and Caltagirone (Sicily).
- In 2003, Cergy (France), Magdeburg (Germany) and Zeven (Germany).
