LYSLYD project : 10 municipalities around Copenhagen work together on large-scale art in urban space projects

From 10 February, a number of municipalities in the Capital and Zealand region will give residents the opportunity to experience the city in a new light. The art in urban space project LYSLYD (LIGHTSOUND) will challenge public spaces with a series of light installations created in collaboration with local businesses. Experience Armsrock’s illumination of Bispeengbuen in Frederiksberg, created in collaboration with the firm Moving Ads or regulate the light yourself in Hedehusene, by playing ping-pong!

Creative urban planning
LYSLYD moves urban planning out of the city halls and into the actual public spaces. Unexpected solutions appear when artists and local businesses get together to shed new light over the city. In February, residents and visitors will be able to watch a range of public spaces unfold in the participating municipalities as well as rediscover forgotten and hidden parts of the city.

Interactive ping-pong table, illuminated footpaths & passages and projections on gables
In Albertslund and Herlev you can experience some of the cities’ footpaths and passages in a completely new way. In Hedehusene, you can interact with artist group F L Y V S K’s installation by simply playing ping-pong and in Frederiksberg, the forgotten area around Bispeengbuen provides the stage for the internationally acclaimed Danish artist Armsrock’s life size light projections. In both the Haraldsgade neighbourhood and Gilleleje, the artwork transforms according to the wind and weather and in Roskilde, the installation responds to life around the library.

The projects all have one thing in common: they present completely ordinary parts of the city in a special light and by so doing invite residents and visitors to use the city in new and diverse ways.

Culture and business in a permanent network
LYSLYD is not just a series of art projects in February, but also a permanent network of municipalities, artists and businesses, which will be able to inspire and develop new creative ways of working in the future.

LYSLYD project manager Trevor Davies says: “LYSLYD creates unique possibilities for artists, designers and architects to work with other fiery souls from the 10 participating municipalities and local businesses. Through these new alliances we are able to create a series of concrete proposals for how public spaces can be improved here and now and create a network of people that through their creativity and collaboration, can contribute to changing our perception of the city.”

You can experience LYSLYD at the following locations, from 10 February 2010: The Skolegangen passage in Albertslund, Den Blå Sti in Herlev, the Station area in Hedehusene, in and around Roskilde Library, the bus terminal in Køge, Bispeengbuen in Frederiksberg, Hermodsgade in Nørrebro, Remisen in Gilleleje and Byparken in Ørestad. From 25 February, you will also be able to experience LYSLYD in the historical part of Helsingør.
