The City of Berlin wins the “Auroralia” award 2009

“Auroralia”, launched by Schréder with the support of LUCI, rewards three cities that have implemented a system of exterior lighting that minimizes the negative imprint on the environment, in the most assertive, exemplary and original way.

For this first edition, 23 entries were made, coming from 22 cities around the world. The jury was composed of 6 journalists from the urban lighting and sustainable development press.

The prize giving ceremony was organized in Lyon during the Light Festival on December 7th.

The first prize (€ 6000) was awarded to the City of Berlin for its lighting master plan which is integrated in a global urban objective of sustainable development. The jury appreciated the high percentage of energy savings, the reduction of CO2 emissions and costs linked to the lighting master plan.

The second prize (€ 3000) went to the City of Lyon for the illumination of the “Lycée St Just”. The jury was impressed by the fact that this project perfectly completes the nocturnal landscape of Lyon. It also noticed the specificity of the technology used: a photovoltaic power station which generates 34% of the necessary energy to light up the building.

The City of Westminster received the third prize (€ 1500) for the renovation of lighting in the Westbourne Park. Luminaires combining LED, a dimming system and telemanagement have been settled in the park and in the streets nearby and have reduced energy consumptions and CO2 emissions.
