LUCI/ Philips city.people.light award 2009: last call for applications!

Last call for the Philips/LUCI city.people.light award 2009. All entries must be received by 30 June 2009

The objective of the award is to recognize cities that bring together the notions of ‘city’, ‘people’ and ‘light’ through innovative and relevant lighting solutions which attempt to re-humanize the urban landscape whilst at the same time exploring ways to respect the environment.

The presentation of the award should help to raise awareness amongst city authorities and urban architects of the advantages that sustainable urban lighting brings to a city.

Projects will be judged by an independent jury according to: the context of the project, environmental integration, the timescale of the project, finance, the project team, added value and the overall quality of entry. Only permanent lighting installations that are visible to all citizens free of charge can be considered and entered lighting projects must have been completed less than two years prior to application.

Three towns or cities will be awarded for their projects and the first prize will consist of a trophy and a cheque for €10.000. The award ceremony will take place in Gwangju, South Korea, during the LUCI Annual General Meeting in autumn 2009.

Last years winners were Seoul (first prize), Riga (second prize - photo on home page) and St. Gallen (third prize).

All entries must be received in English by 30 June 2009.
