Chartres en Lumières: the light festival is now illuminating the city
The light festival will continue from dusk until 12.30am every night until 19th September 2009.
Chartres en Lumières was initiated in 2003 as the City of Chartres wanted to create a popular event which would enhance the historical monuments of the city and particularly the UNESCO world heritage protected cathedral. The illuminations are therefore designed to reflect the cultural, contemporary and attractive identity of the city.
The span of the light festival is immense. The artists are given the opportunity to create a coherent concept made up of different and original elements on a city-wide scale.
The Mayor of Chartres said, ‘the light festival now constitutes one of the major annual events in the Chartres calendar. Moreover, it has developed a national and international status.’
