Geneva unveils its lighting strategy and approach to green mobility during the last LUCI City under Microscope
Sixty-one visitors from twenty cities participated in the event organised by the City of Geneva from 24th – 26th May in Geneva. A special thanks to Florence Colace, Lighting Architect, Urban Planning and Mobility Services and Olivier Candolfi, in charge of Public Lighting in Geneva who proposed a very rich and original program.
Beyond the detailed presentations of Geneva’s lighting plan and temporary and event lighting, the program included a specific focus on the theme of ‘green mobility’ as this is something the City of Geneva has been developing for several years. The city has numerous cycling lanes, a ‘pedestrian plan’ etc. and lighting is still considered an important parameter in these developments.
A round table was organized to answer questions such as: the development of green paths (sites dedicated to non-motorised traffic) and finding the correct equilibrium between comfortable lighting for the city’s users and the need to decrease energy consumption. The theme was illustrated by experiences from the cites of Eindhoven, Leipzig and Lyon and for the first time at a City Under Microscope, included the participation of relevant local associations: Union Genevoise de Piétons, l’Association Transport et Environnement et Genève roule.
Another first was the bike tour of Geneva which took place on the evening of the 24th May. An original and lively approach to the city's lighting strategy very appreciated by all participants
The event was rounded up with presentations of lighting solidarity projects from Isabelle Corten, who took part in the last mission to Mali for Concepteurs lumière sans frontieres and Antoine Bouchet, for the Lyon/Jericho LightLinks project.
