The Japanese ‘city of water’ becomes a city of ‘water and light’
The city of Osaka is located in the centre of Japan and is the hub of the Kansai region. It is known as the ‘city of water’ due to its many rivers and now hopes to rejuvenate its image and identity through the use of light.
As a ‘city of light’, Osaka plans to demonstrate five key concepts: unique Osaka illuminations, themed illuminations, postcard illuminations, serene illuminations and welcoming illuminations.
The Lighting Plan is made up of three ideas:
- The ‘City Axis’ plan is which based on the lighting of the East-West axis and the North-South axis promenades, providing an illuminations infrastructure
- The ‘illuminations calendar’ which aims to revitalize Osaka through the promotion of illuminations in the organisation of lighting events such as Osaka Hikari-Renaissance, Osaka Castle/Uemachi Plateau/Tenjin Festival, Okawa/Hachikenya Renewal/Cherry
- And finally, the ‘110 illumination views’ which consists of the domestic and international promotion of Osaka, City of Light, activities through the 100 Illuminations Views Award and information updates on the website http://www.osaka-hikari.com
