LUCI increases its presence in the Americas with new memberships of Medellin, Columbia (picture above) and Boca del Rio, Mexico
Viviana Neri and Alessandro Castellano from the City of Boca del Rio Vera Cruz explain why their city became member of LUCI
Why have you decided to join LUCI?
The Mayor of Boca del Rio has a very important city development program. According to this program, the city’s lighting system is a fundamental issue for the city’s economic development. Joining LUCI is a way to support this program.
Tell me a few words about the Boca del Rio lighting strategy? What are the highlights of your city, its main characteristics regarding light?
As you may know, Mexico has an emergent economy, which means that some areas of the city are not very developed. In order to fulfil our population’s necessities, Boca del Río established a lighting strategy which includes the complete change of the main tourist area boulevards, with a more modern design and new technologies; lighting systems for 3 new tourist plazas, and the completion of all the lighting needs of the less developed areas of the town. Being a city surrounded by the sea and crossed by a river, the lighting systems will try to take advantage of this environment to show a more modern city. The works have just started this December 2008 and will be completed by the second half of 2009.
What do you think LUCI can do for your city? And, what can you do for LUCI and
its other members?
LUCI is a major ally for Boca del Río for all the expertise it can get from LUCI members and associated members. As an example, during the last meeting in San Luis Potosí (Mexico) we met with a large number of LUCI members from all over the world, sharing ideas, concepts, experiences....This helped us to define our lighting strategy. With activities such as "City under the Microscope" and others, we are sure we will get many benefits from LUCI.
For other LUCI members, we can probably be an example especially in Latin America or in emergent economies, as we share our experience on how we developed our strategies and obtained funding for these projects. Mexico is a country "FULL OF COLORS", so we also hope to be an interesting new "color" to LUCI´s light palette!...
