Aalborg Waterfront project wins the Danish Lighting Award 2011

The prize, awarded for the fourth consecutive year, was presented on the Day of Light, celebrated at the IT University of Copenhagen. The event was organised by The Danish Lighting Center, an independent association that aims to promote the use of good and appropriate lighting.

The Aalborg waterfront project, “a rarely seen atmospheric and well-functioning project" according to the jury, won the top prize.

The project adapted the lighting of the waterfront, to its many different urban spaces and functions, while at the same time creating coherence in the area as a whole. Moreover, the light armatures' physical expression supports the architectural ideas without compromising the quality of the light. The lighting consultants on the project were ÅF Lighting and the project architects were C.F. Møller Architects and Vibeke Rønnow Landscape Architects.

The Danish Lighting Center received a total of 19 recommendations, out of which five were shortlisted for the award. Besides Aalborg Waterfront, the other shortlisted projects were: the Kongens Have project in Odense (Erik Brandt Dam Arkitekter and lighting designer Jesper Kongshaug), the Middelfart Sparekasse project in Middelfart (3XN and artist Olafur Eliasson), the tunnel between the Panum Institute and Rigshospitalet, Copenhagen (artist Ane Lykke and lighting designer Jesper Kongshaug) and the lighting project for Terminal 2, Copenhagen Airports (PLH Arkitekter and lighting designer Jesper Kongshaug).
